What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are dental restorations that offer stability and reliability due to the permanent implants that secure artificial teeth. They consist of implant posts, an abutment, and prosthetic teeth. The dentures are comprised of artificial teeth set in a comfortable acrylic base that mimics the appearance of healthy gum tissue.

These dental restorations are increasingly popular because, unlike traditional partial and full dentures, implant-supported dentures do not slip or shift. The implant posts also eliminate the need for messy denture pastes or adhesives.

Snap-On Dentures

Snap-on dentures allow you to enjoy the stability of an implant-supported denture while also being removable. This dental restoration requires fewer implant posts compared to permanent implant-supported dentures, which can shorten healing time after surgery. Snap-on dentures are also easy to care for. Simply remove them, gently brush them, and then place them in an approved cleaning solution at the end of the day. Our dentist will work with you to determine which type of implant-supported denture is right for your lifestyle and budget.

Our Implant-Supported Dentures Process

Restoring your smile is a very personal process. That is why our team does everything possible to help you feel welcome and appreciated every time you visit our dental practice. We make sure you know that you are a priority.

Our dentist will perform a thorough and gentle exam of your teeth, jaws, and gums. We gather 3D images of your dental structures to create a tailor-made treatment plan that fits you and your specific smile goals. Then we will discuss the findings of the exam and the images with you to determine the best course of action to boost your oral health and rejuvenate your smile.

If you have any pretreatments that need to take place prior to receiving your implant-supported dentures, then we will include those in your plan to ensure the best rate of success for your dental restoration. We perform pretreatments such as extractions, bone grafts, and sinus lifts in our office so you can enjoy consistent care.

Once any necessary pretreatments are complete, we will place the implant posts. You will take time to heal after this surgery and allow the titanium posts to fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This permanent post creates a strong and reliable base for your dentures. After you have recovered, we will fit your custom dentures, and you will leave our office ready to show off your new smile.

Implant-Supported Dentures FAQs

Our commitment to continued education allows us to constantly offer the latest in dental techniques, and we are excited to share how the treatments we recommend will benefit your oral health. We encourage you to ask questions and are happy to provide the answers you need to make an informed decision regarding your treatment plan. Here are some of the most common questions we receive about implant-supported dentures.

Do I have to change my diet with dentures?

No, implant-supported dentures renew the integrity of your bite and allow you to eat a greater variety of foods. They do not slip or fall out, which means you won't be restricted to soft foods. Our dental restorations allow you to enjoy your favorite foods again.

No. Implant-supported dentures are customized to fit you specifically. You may experience some discomfort the first few days after the implant posts have been placed, but it will subside, and you can take over-the-counter pain medication to alleviate any discomfort.

Implant-supported dentures are very durable and can last for 10-15 years when properly cared for. The implant post is permanent, so while you may need to replace your dentures if they become damaged or misplaced, you will not have to go through the post placement surgery again.
